Where to Eat – Capri

by shaunagardner

Capri is a dream. It really is and one that does not disappoint. It is definitely worth adding on to any trip to the Amalfi Coast as a day trip but if your budget and trip allows, I highly recommend spending a few days staying on the island so you can really get a feel for Capri, its’ history and magic while also being able to enjoy the incredible food scene.

Here are some of my recs for where to eat when in Capri…

La Fontelina

What do Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Clark Gable all have in common? They have all spent the day lounging on the rocks of La Fontelina. La Fontelina is a beach club/restaurant overlooking the famous Fraglioni. If you are not wanting to spend the whole day lying under the Caprese sun, I highly recommend going by just for lunch. They have two seatings, 1pm and 3pm and a reservation is a MUST and ideally as far in advance as possible. You can take a private taxi-boat from Marina Piccola to Fontelina and return on request or take Fontelina’s shuttle boat.

Ristorante Da Gelsomina

Da Gelsomina is located in Anacapri on the slopes of Monte Solaro and is part of a family-owned bed and breakfast. They are known for their “ravioli capresi”, fresh ricotta, Parmigiana-Reggiano cheese and marjoram but any dish here will be worth the visit. I recommend arriving early to enjoy an apertivo and the beautiful sunset view. Reservation recommended. Tip: There is a shuttle that will pick you up from the center of Anacapri, just contact the restaurant.

Ristorante la Zagara

We stumbled across La Zagara after taking the chair-lift up to the top of Monte Solaro in Anacapri. Part of a family owned-boutique hotel, Casa Mariantonia, La Zagara is a way to dine under the “lemoncello of Capri.” This beautiful quaint little spot is a great way to escape the tourist traps of the city center and enjoy a quiet lunch or dinner.

La Terrazza di Lucullo – Hotel Caesar Augustus

This is a MUST do when in Capri. Located on the cliffside of Anacapri, overlooking the Bay of Naples, the stunning Hotel Caesar Augustus is one of the most romantic and beautiful places on the island (if not in Italy) with a beautiful kitchen garden providing all of the fresh produce and ingredients for their restaurant, La Terrazza di Lucullo.  I recommend splurging and reserving one of their “chef tables,” which offer privacy and the most breathtaking views all while enjoying a seven-course tasting menu. Note: This rec might not be in everyone’s budget. SPLURGE option. 😉
